Latin Name: Cryptomeria japonica D. Don.

Origin: Japan

Character:    The timber is related to sequoia and swamp cypress. Appearance is a warm brown color
with yellow or brown streaks. It is harder and firmer textured than cypress. The wood is durable and is used extensively in Japan in sauna’s as it takes heat very well.

 Working Properties: Saws and machines well, use care in planning. Wood can be finished smoothly and takes finishes quite well. It tens to split if nailed. Screw only.

Uses: For centuries the tree has been venerated by the Japanese. The mysticism and pious sentiment is well known about the Sugi tree. It is used in temples, temple gateways, joinery and furniture.

Dimension: Tung and groove pieces, 6 inches wide x ¾ inch thick by 10 foot length.
