Latin Name: Piratinera guianensis

Origin: Suriname & Guyana, Our Guyana wood was cut and transported by the Amerasian Indians. The Suriname wood was cut and transported by the Negroes Indians.

Character: A very hard, dense, close grained and lustrous wood. This is a highly figured wood ranging in color from dark reddish brown to dark chocolate brown with dark brown speckles in vertical stripes. The background of tanish brown to dark brown with hints of dark cream to orangish tan form an intricate and irregular pattern, resembling snakeskin or leopard skin.

Working Properties: Finishes to a smooth, hard, marble like surface, polishes well

Uses: Flooring, inlay, handles, boxes, knives, turnery, fine furniture, cabinetry, table tops, sculpture, and specialties
