Latin Name: Peltogyne spp.

Origin: Central America and Tropical America

Character: Tall trees 100 to 150 feet with a diameter of up to 4 feet. The sapwood is creamy white or off-white in color. The heartwood turns vibrant purple with exposure. Use of Armorall (a car finish) under lacquer is reported to hold color. The wood has a fine to medium texture and glues well.

Uses: Fine furniture, turnings, cabinetmaking, boxes, matched panels, specialty items, collectors

Dimension: Square edge 4" to 20" in width, thickness 4/4 to 12/4, length 4 feet to 18 feet.
