Latin Name: Quercus petraea

Origin: England (United Kingdom)

Character: Medium textured wood that shows a distinct silver grain figure throughout, due to its broad rays. This wood varies in color from a unique golden yellow to rich brown to reddish brown due to a fungus that attacks the tree when young. This is a highly figured, very decorative wood.

Working Properties: Finishes to a highly smooth, lustrous surface. Take stains, glues and polishes well. Holds its color very well.

Uses Fine furniture, cabinetry, carvings, turnery, veneers, table tops, handles, specialty items, kitchen utensils.

Dimension: Square edge, 4 qt. to 10 qt., length 4ft. to 16 ft., width 4 inch to 14" inches. Log run, 4qt to 10qt., length 6ft. to 10ft., width 8 inches to 16 inches.
